Hi Guys,
I have the temerity to place my win 7 taskbar vertically on the left. Choosing small icons does not slim down the bar like it does if it is horizontal.

Have searched and others seem to have the issue but no sign of solution.
Any clues how I can make it skinny ?
cheers
Pete

Unlock it then move the mouse on the edge of it till the <-> appears, then make it smaller

that dosn't work unfortunately.
It is as skinny as it will drag.
works when it's on the bottom edge, the big 'start' button actually hangs bigger than the bar. Just not in the vertical

I think I remember hearing that it's like this on purpose, just in case the display is a touch-screen. I believe it's so you can still touch it with ease, if it's shrunk too thin it'd be tricky to select the icons you want with your finger... or something like that

Yeah it would make sense if the user could over-ride this if they had a normal LCD though, heh

You may find some kind of 3rd party tool which can do the job.

I have tweaked some settings on mine with 7 Taskbar Tweaker

There seems to be a few tricks to reduce size - but only temporary until the next boot as noted here (http://superuser.com/questions/181731/windows-7-taskbar-as-sidebar-min-width-fixed) and the bottom of this site. Well, I'm not sure if 7TT will do what you want, but there might be a similar program which does.

Have you increased the DPI of your screen?? Or are you using large/extra large fonts?

Edit: That's how it is for me too, must be built in somewhere :)

If its a pain being a wider size, why not just select Auto Hide. That way it will disappear all together until you need it by directing the mouse to the side of the screen.
