Acer Aspire 5100 Model BL51 Laptop
No sound
- Audio is associated with Bluetooth?
- downloaded & installed the Realtek High Definition audio driver from Acer
- although installed, it is still not associated or available as a sound playback device

So you dont have the option to change it to the default under sounds?

That's what I am saying - the only available sound in the control panel is Bluetooth High Quality Audio

Notebook / Aspire / 5100? Didn't it have a restore partition on it? Did it come with XP originally?

Hmm did you install the chipset drivers, before you installed the audio drivers?

No this was not a clean install - just a repair.
So I don't know if the chipset drivers were installed 1st.

Does anything for the onboard sound appear in device manager? Like a ? If there's nothing there, check the BIOS to see if its enabled

There must be an option in the BIOS or it wouldnt have sound. Umm, is there a button for the sound on it?? Maybe its disabled or something?

If there's no entry at all or ? in device manager, it sounds like its gone AWOL. WHAT was the reason for the repair?

Yes the keyboard has a sound on & muted but - it's on.
Restoring the sound was the reason for the repair
I agree it's gone AWOL.
I need to go now.
I will try another hard drive & fresh install, with chipset drivers 1st.
Thanks for you help.
Have a good (dry) weekend.
