View Full Version : Shrinking the IE index.dat file using DOS.

The current issue of NZ PC World refers to the October 2000 issue (which I do not have) as having the instructions for clearing the index.dat file in IE. Can someone tell me how to do this in DOS? Cheers.

Type index.dat into the search box above & you'll find heaps of recent info

I dont have the cd either but heres how I used to do it.

Goto shutdown, restart in DOS mode.

Then type :

DELTREE /Y C:\WINDOWS\TEMPOR~1\*.*

DELTREE /Y C:\WINDOWS\HISTORY\*.*

DELTREE /Y C:\WINDOWS\COOKIES\*.*

Make sure you copy them down correctly (There are only 3 lines if press f1 breaks them up).
