We do, but it's passed on to us by my sister, we swap a couple of different publications.

I seldom get any further than looking at the front cover before chucking it back on the shelf.

Too much pandering to the latest retail items and the latest MS OS.

There's only so many times you can tolerate page after page gushing about the latest OS or the next OS.

How about this for a product review? Find the best printer in terms of mimimal usage costs - one that works well with refillable or cloned carts, without the grind of resetting chips.

Some of us are tired of being treated like a mug by the ink (printer) manufacturers, and by MS at the expectation that we'll buy their OS and Office and development suites simply because it's *new*.

The world is full of suckers, and many of them are supporting the stream of crappy products we are being given.
Nobody should be shelling out $50 to HP for a half filled ink tank, which has about 50% of it's contents purged into the pads during the startup routines.

Weird - I got mine in the mail yesterday.

I'll keep subscribing for the next wee while, but as I've said previously, it's not a patch on PC Authority.

I used to get PC World for about 6 six years but stuff got too complicated and I couldnt understand stuff any more so I didnt renew subscription.

It went downhill as soon as they started covering Cell phones and game consoles..

It may be to do with subscriptions -- I forgot mine was on auto renew for this year, other wise I wouldn't have bothered.

BUT I noticed it was in the local bookshops & countdown last Thursday and Pak N Save mag racks on Friday.

So much for getting it any earlier or on time. Also noticed quite a few of the articles in PC world were in the previous months or so Aust mags, seems there's a bit of copying, just another reason not to renew it

The Australian mags always arrive a day or so before the shops get them.

66 years is a longtime.

I don't subscribe. My mum gets it for me from New World or Countdown. I've been getting it ever since Netguide stopped having disks with their mags, as the only good thing about their mags was the disk, plus we only had dial up at the time

I too was a long time subscriber. Cancelled well over a year ago.
Now I just get it from the library and have a flick through it. Definately not a patch on the magazine it used to be...

same - library occasionally.

i am not really a computer nerd. i'm more just a computer user. i generally keep a system for 4yrs without major upgrades.

x2

I get tired of the glowing reports given to Nortons and Mcafee. Hard to believe that a specialist magazine would push that crap on punters.

Amazing the number of times I hear "but it gets great reviews" when I'm fixing someone's computer (due to one or other of those products screwing with it)...

My auto-renew won't be renewed...

I do, but don't really no anyone else that does.

I get it delivered and it typically takes about five minutes to read it, about three minutes of that is reading the ads.

We should make our own :p From members of this forum. It wont have ads. Just have to figure out what to put in it. BUT, it shouldn't be that hard. Wouldn't have to worry about putting it in any fancy cover. Just put it in a PDF file or something. But, pity you can't add it as an attachment.

I gave up on it ages ago when it went the way of all computer magazines I have subscribed to since about 1995 and started pandering to the advertisers too much.
Geoff Palmer used to do some good articles on Linux and Delphi/Kylix etc and he wasn't scared to slam MS when they deserved it but he appears to have been hobbled now.

I mainly get it for the decent articles. Though im getting sick of them praising Nortons & McAfee :(

it used to be good but since they've done those AV tests which are a pack of lies compared to actual "real world" testing by our resident tester (who may or may not have too much time on his hands :D) Wainutech.

gotta find that thread he made about that:D.

theres too much advertising rubbish in it now.

until it improves(likely?) i'm gonna give it a miss.

I just got the new Mag today, it should be renamed MacWorld or NortonWorld.

I thought its meant to be about PC's, am i wrong?

It has 2 articles about iPhoney 4 and the i(won't go)Mac.

The "PC" could stand for a number of things. Probably originally stood for "Personal Computer" (that's so 1980's!!!)

In today's context, it's probably "Personal Computing" which covers desktops, laptops, tablets, smartphones and all the software and peripherals you can plug into them....

It arrived at lunch time and must have been a good one because it took me ten minutes to read, mostly the cpu test section

Yes their reviews are very superficial.
Especially on printers, its almost as if they just print the brochure, without trying one.

And their biased reviews on anti virus programs !

I wonder how much longer they can go on, when you can get it all on here !

I used to buy it every month, but I stopped a few years ago.

I subscribed for years to the PCWorld mag but quit a couple of months back :(

Too much American hard sell BS for my liking. Also too much game stuff which is not my scene :)

I have been subscribing since before it came with a CD.
Anyway decided I will not renew my sub for all the reasons already discussed.
RIP PC World:(
