Recently I bought a Toshiba Netbook on which Windows 7 Starter is installed. Also preinstalled was the trial MS Office which I decided to delete in favour of installing Open Office. I notice that the following are also installed and wonder if I need them or whether it would be safe to delete:Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition [ENU]; MS SQL Server Native Client; MS SQL Server Setup Support File; MS SQL Server VSS Writer. Thanks for your assistance :)

Yep you probably can remove them safely. They are part of Office database things.

They may be used by some _other_ program, Microsoft or non-Microsoft. MS Office does not normally install SQL Server. I recall some sort of photo/gallery app installing the SQL Server 2005 compact edition on my PC, but can't remember what it was called.

You'll soon find out if something needs it. It wont work, if you uninstall it
