I was browsing the web and out of the blue I got a sex pop-up. I thought it was normal popup but it was actually an ap. It had created its own folder in Program Files, placed an exe there and put shortcuts to itself on the desktop and start menu. This was without me doing anything at all. Its date underproperties verfied it was only just created. How can I stop this sorta thing happening? WinME, IE6, latest virus defs.

Stop visiting pornographic web sites. This will undoubtedly fix your problem.

anyone with any idea about were the 'cool' things are on the net will know that part of the territory is these kinda pop ups.
like warez, appz, movies etc all are, unfortunetly associated with porn, but a couple of porn pop ups is ok when i can download a latest movie like 'cats and dogs' 4 free.
so don't assume these pop ups mean u ara at a porn site, although, that would be the asumption.
as for solving the problem, i dunno.

Hmmm, not sure what you can do. Sounds nasty.
I have heard of some people who wear a condom while surfing the internet but I am pretty sure that doesn't help. The short answer is that I don't know what you can do. It seems like they are exlpoiting a loophole that a virus would have a field-day with.
Needless to say you don't want this happening. Not sure whether there are any holes in IE6 to plug, maybe check the Microsoft site for any updates.

Check your security settings, you want to block, or atleast be prompted for activex programs. As soon as you allow the program, its gets free reigh on your system.

IE has all sorts of security problems. Get a decent browser if you want to avoid the problem.

opera isn't to bad though some sites will not display properly and are unuseable. unfortunatly opera is clashing with a few progs (icq exspecialy) and ie6 is about as fast. mozilla i havn't tried yet

i have noticed nortons internet sweep tends to help with dealing with active x (some simply won't run).

if anyone could actualy post the offending sites it would be appreciated.

Not sure if you have the same one I got, not sure how I got it proberly one of those things going round email and msn at the moment.
Anyway the program created files in programfiles which i deleted and also I started msconfig.exe through run.
I unchecked the files, SaveNow,msbb, and someother one, restarted the computer then deleted any other signs of it in programfiles and its gone!

Get the free program Web Washer at webwasher.com - this stops pop ups and most cookies, and since unwanted stuff is filtered out your surf speed goes up. The excellent user reviews on cnet.com (downloads) had me try this program out and it is a good one.
