This NEC PowerMate MT 7102 K killed 3 HDDs (all Seagates) in 2 years! Does it suggest that there's some other problems with the PC?

Not always -- Couple of years ago I had 3 HDD's fail within a Year on this PC.

Two Seagates, 1 Western Digital.

What type of disk failures; was there a common thread? Could be power quality issues perhaps, though bad luck is more like it. :(

What was the failure mode of the drives?

Thats too much of a coincidence for me, Id say power issue 1st, then board, then HDD.
Any excuse for a new PC....I cant even find NEC PowerMate MT 7102 on google!!

also can be poor air flow. heat can kill HD fairly quick.

It's an old PC. It should be in the NEC site.

Give the damn HD's a good whack with a big hammer .... that usually starts them spinning again :devil

But we still don't even know what the failure was with the drives...

Problems with reading Windows files randomly - sometimes take ages to load a program. Performed SeaTools tests - failed. What else do you wish to know?

Already sent back to Singapore for replacement!

Just wondering if it was the same thing with all the drives, if it was, I'd be looking at usage patterns or environmental factors

Would have been interesting to know the SMART results for each drive... Oh well

Well, can't remember the previous test results but from memory, they were quite similar.
