My new 'puter has arrived. I chose not to get a new monitor at this stage, but of course now the 'puter is here, I find the old monitor has a VGA connection (both ends of the cable) and the new 'puter has two DVI connections!

I am asking if that now means I will need to go ahead and get a new monitor or is there an adaptor I can buy? Suggestions/comments would be gratefully received.:)

DVI to VGA adapter needed. They exist. I have a couple here.

If it's a decent LCD monitor it should have a DVI input as well, otherwise you can buy DVI-VGA adaptors.

Ahh - you people are soooo good! That will give me time to gather what few wits I have left and make a thoughtful decision!

Most appreciated. :thanks

some video cards should come with a vga converter thingy. at least the 2 PCI-X did for me.

initially you don't notice that much, after a while and you go back to VGA, you DO notice the difference. it's almost like going from film to digital photog. meaning the finegrain low ISO stuff. *almost*, IMO a bit like saying digital ISO 400 vs film ISO 100 (consumer film like Kodak Gold / Fuji Superia).
