A friend has taken some videos on a ContourHD video camera (http://contour.com/contourhd/techspecs) - the 1080p version.

As you can see it uses .MOV container format.

Now recently he copied some videos from the card and they don't work.

I've opened both a working and non-working clip in a hex editor and it's quite obvious that almost the entire header is missing on the videos that don't work.

No idea why this happens, and I don't know the state of the hardware. In any case, is it possible to fix this?

Any programs which look slightly interesting seem to all be for Mac OS and nothing for Windows...

One way is to try virtual dub and the MOV plugin pack linked from Video Help Com (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Virtualdub); Perhaps Avidemux (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/AviDemux/version-history) would be a similar processing approach. But Apple Quick Time Player may have a repair function?

But I think it's possible with a group of freeware - by extracting the raw audio/video then adapting to ffmpeg or even divx. Video Help com forum (http://www.corruptedfilerepair.com/Recovery/Fix-Damaged-QuickTime-Movie-MOV.asp) mentions MOV repair.
