View Full Version : Ram Upgrade

03-09-2001, 09:40 PM
I am upgrading my memory and I have purchased a Transcend 128MB ram chip and would like some advice on installing. Do I need to do any preparatory back ups or anything prior to installation, do I leave the old ram set in place, and what steps must I take once the new ram is installed?
Any advice will be appreciated.

Regards,

Mike

Gidday Mike,
Nothing to prepare, turn the PC off and stick it in.
Make sure you have the RAM in the right way in reguard to the wee slots on the bottom, they only go in one way. Open the wee clips on the ends on the RAM slot and firmaly but gently push it in untill the clips come up and lock the RAM in.
There is a wee green LED/diode (light) near the RAM, if that is glowing DONT try putting it in, that means there is still power in the RAM's BUS, odds are it will be off by the time you open the tower up, just be aware.
Thats all there is to it.

Also pays to take precautions for static electricity,Either a wrist strap or ground yourself by holding the steel part of the case first.
