recently acquired an old epson printer with a b-type usb connection.

our modem has the same connection so i assume we can use it as a print server of sorts(d-link 502T gen 2)??.

not sure if dick smith smith has the cable needed but gonna check on tuesday.

if not where can i get a cable from?

cheers

What? All printers have a USB B cable.
The modem does not have a print server built in - that connector you see is an alternate means of connecting it to your PC (instead of ethernet). If it had a print server it would have the A type USB socket in it.

Err NO. Not if its a 502T.

If its the same as This modem/Router (http://www.dlink.co.nz/products/?pid=723) the USB connection is not a printer port, its as PCTek said, its a "alternate means of connecting it to your PC (instead of Ethernet)" Picture from Manual (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/Dlink.jpg) tells you what each port does.

An Example (http://www.dlink.co.nz/products/?pid=787) of a router with a printer port -- Look in the description on the right or its Manual Picture (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/Dlink2.jpg)

If its only to the printer>PC then yeah a A-B standard printer cable as speedy linked the picture A one end, B the other.

As where to get one, lots of places have them, any computer shop "should" or even places like the warehouse have them.

If you do want to network your printer, there are devices which will allow you to do that (http://pricespy.co.nz/category.php?k=474)

If those are too expensive, try Trademe or maybe even eBay

i may look at doing that in the future, thanks though.

after i buy a new router/modem that doesn't drop connection(that one chill reccomended, netcomm??)
anyway thats another issue.

if this works then a print server setup could be on the cards.

I uses a Linksys psus4 switch print server neat little box that sits n my desk with 4 RJ45 ports and a USB. It works with 64bit win7 too
