Hilarity aside, my gut feeling is that BEFORE a heatsink of that size would be required, you would reach limitations of the processor other than external heat dissipation.

For example, the chip simply not being able to handle the voltage, regardless of its temperature, or the heat dissipation to the heat spreader itself.

Am I right or wrong?

Actually the ASUS got a good review as far as performance too.

Is it meant to cool the cpu or hover it?

For some reason, it reminds me of a V8...

As for the actual usefulness of it, I've seen a few mad overclocks, you'd be surprised at what some OC-friendly CPU's are capable of. So long as you can stabilize it, they're usually pretty happy.

I remember seeing something like 9GHz a while back, done with Liquid Nitrogen. Not sure if it was a hoax though.
