View Full Version : Opening PPT files from Second Copy 2000

I backup my data files on a rewritable CD using Second Copy 2000 each time I shut down. I have no problem opening Word and Excel files from the CD, but on any Powerpoint file I get: '(name of file and file path) is currently in use. PPT cannot modify at this time.'
I can understand getting a read-only message for the file but I get this message whether I open via Explorer or from Powerpoint itself.
It would seem that non of my Powerpoint files, and there are many, would be recoverable from the CD if a crash occurred.

It sounds like another program, probably second copy still has it open. Try copying the file to your HDD and trying again. Or hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete and end task programs until you can access it.

TaskInfo 2000 will give you a list of currently open files.

You're right. There's no problem opening if I copy back onto the hard disk

And you're also right that Second Copy thinks the file is open. However, it's not. All files are closed. And it doesn't make any difference what PPT file I might choose, I get the same message. But as I said, the problem is only with PPT.

Thinks for the tip.
