View Full Version : Niggly Network

I have two machines (AMDk6 2 500-winme and a Dell Optiplex GX110 PIII 667-98se) and have set up a home network which appears to work fine. The problem I have is that one or both of the machines (which one I'm not sure) appear to connect to the internet under no particular circumstance with no apparent cause. I have the AMD machine set up for internet connection sharing. How can I correct this. I need this feature. Please don't tell me to turn it off.

Please Help,
Duncan Jameson

......Thanx in advance

Hi. I understand completely. Exact same senario. However, could be tricky.

things it could be:

2)Msn Messenger (that was a biggie for me)
3)other chat programs etc.
4)Microsoft works update detection (my main cause) Turn this off in msword/works/office, depends what u have.
5)check any scheduler programs for scheduled updates
6)check your virus scanner isnt automatically searching for updates
7)click start>run and type msconfig, then check under the startup tab for anything that might be conecting. If your not experienced, dont change anything.
8)oh yea, check if any email programs are scheduled to check email every 'X' minutes.

Hope this helps, I had the same problem.
