AMD Athlon XP Processor Model 2800+
Compaq Presario S5040AN

And to add i have just brought a new PSU w/400w max output.

I hope this information is enough to assist cos its really beginining to bother me after 2days of research lol.

Most likely AGP, an obsolete slot. The best you could get is probably a 7800 AGP, which is extremely hard to come by.

Best to save up for a new PC, really.

Yea agree with above 8x AGP as far as I can tell, just not worth spending any money on.

But who knows

I have checked the Motherboard and it's an AGP 8X slot.

Also has onboard graphics.

Ok well its a bit to late to think about buying a new pc lol as i have just spent $200 on this old system trying to upgrade it for my daughter.
In regards to the AGP statement... So basically as long as it is a AGP it will be compatible, right?

Yeah, even if it's AGP 4x instead of 8x it will still work. Performance wise it will be noticeable only in older games.

Upgrade it for what exactly? gaming? You can't.

As for the PSU, that's meaningless. A lot of cheap or generic PSUs may say it's capable of 400w but they lie.
It's always best to stick with known quality brands of PSU.

Whats wrong with the current graphics card, I presume it's dead? Sweep has suggested that machine should have onboard graphics - if so, and if this is dead, I'd be worried about the motherboard in general.
