I want to see how many files other people actually print on my printer while I'm away, so is there a way to keep a log file of printer activity?
I'm using a Canon printer.

Although I don't know of a particular program to log printer activity I am sure they are available - try a search of Google. However if you want to know which files have been recently created/modified ie accessed for printing, you could try the following:

Start/find/files or folders - in the 'Find: All files' applet click the 'Date' tab and select the 'find all files' radio button, from the drop down list box select eg 'created' or 'modified' and select the time period from the other radio buttons. Then select the 'Advanced' tab at the top, and in the 'of type' box select the type of file eg 'microsoft word document'.

It's sounds such a simple problem, yet I've no idea what to do.

Using 'Find' works but I'm not sure about whether it is possible to generate a log for all files (not just *.doc) under Windows 9x.

...Windows keeps a temporary record of your printer activity.

Open Windows Explorer and drill down to Windows\Spool\Printer.

Open the file/s in Notepad and read the summary.

Cheers!!!
