View Full Version : Windows 7 / Office 2007 buggy?

29-05-2010, 10:39 AM
I receive some emails from a shop and I have a Outlook rule which I forward the email. Worked fine with Outlook 2003. Now with 2007 it just hangs. Have restarted computer and it hangs again.

It is HTML and has images etc etc .. the pictures don't even load correctly as a preview let alone the forward.

At times, when shutting down Windows it would hang at the splash screen. If I let my computer for sometime it would go into sleep mode, at times you need to press ALT CTRL DEL to bring up the screen.

I may flash my bios. Anything else?

Cheers ...

No problems with W7 & office 2007 when I had it. (Upgraded to 2010).

The rule, was it transferred across from the office 2003, or was it made fresh.

Also was Office 2003 upgraded to Office 2007, or did you uninstall 2003, then install 2007.

A fresh install of W7 and fresh install of Office 2007.

The rule didn't get transferred over for some reasons, I created it from fresh.

When it is in sleep mode. You press the keyboard the LCD button goes amber to green, then it immediately swtiches back to amber, do it again and it repeats. I need to press ALT CTRL DEL to bring the screen up.

RE: Outlook that email could be that specific email that was sent to me. I viewed the past emails they were sent to me. I could view them. Maybe they used diff formatting or mucked up the most recently .... It forward ok too.. Just tried. Windows buggy me thinks thou. Have all the critical udpates and SP1 for Office.

SP2? I just installed SP1 a week ago. It's out already? Not under Windows Update.

Its been out for ages. It probably wont appear in windowsupdate. I cant remember seeing it there either. Its here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=B444BF18-79EA-46C6-8A81-9DB49B4AB6E5&displaylang=en). You dont need SP1 for this either (if you reformat sometime). You can install SP2 after installing Office 07

Thanks Speedy :)
Thanks to Microsoft. I will download it on dialup speed so it does not eat into my data next month :p

It wasn't even on the optional updates (Windows Updates).

It wont be in windowsupdates. Its probably too old to appear in it. You have to get it manually if you want it

The Service pack is actually available Via windows updates, done it twice yesterday on two different installs of office 2007, H&S. Doing another one later today - I'll see if I can get the screen shots ( if I remember) ;)

When you install Office you are given the option to include any updates, if you dont tell it to look, then windows updates wont show it.

Altho, I probably didnt wait long enough to see if SP2 was there. Since I've got the install file

I'm using Office 2007 SP2 and have the update file for Office.

Possibly why terabytes are used as some people run same rather than downloading and saving.

Then some people save then forget where it went. Some people download and then forget to install.

I got SP1 via Windows Updates last week. It's just not there for SP2.

Just checked via Control Panel - took me a while to find the button to see what software/updates I have.

I do have SP2 installed. Maybe it was my error or maybe WU said SP1

SP this and SP that.

Can I now assume you are running Office 2007 with SP2?

The O/S is Win7 with all critical updates but what about Win 7 recommended updates?

Have you made a new rule in Outlook?

My O/S is Win 7 64 bit. Do you have Win 7 32 bit?

Office 2007 has SP2.
The only updates showing now are "optional" and "1" important that I am doing now - Windows Defender Update.

Yes, I made a rule in Outlook. Could be the email that I received. Doesn't work. Cannot forward. It hangs. Thou, the previous emails I received from the same address works.

Yes Windows 7 64-bit.
Still getting the odd windows issue now and then - not every day.

Why Windows Defender update?

Are you using this?

29-05-2010, 01:38 PM
Just installing the optionals now. One of the windows optional updates did say about shutdown problems. Well, they said it was optional

Why Windows Defender update?

Are you using this?

Dunno what it is to be honest. I just installed it cos it was under the "important" category.

So back to the rule.

How is it composed?

Defender is a sort of antivirus and is normally turned off if you install another like MSE.

I don't think it is the rule that's the problem.
I installed Office 2007 recently and haven't installed the rule until today. So I took a previous downloaded email and use the normal forward function. It just hanged.

I just opened email, and clicked forward, entered the person's email address and it hanged.

Could be the email. I couldn't open and see all the images. I did click "download images" at the header of the email.
