I've fallen a bit behind on technology and was wondering if you guys had any ideas on some components for a new PC build
already decided on an AMD system if you guys could recommend any components that would amp up the performance

system:
Cpu: Amd phenom x6 1090t black edition (thuban) @ 3.2ghz
Mobo: Asus crosshair IV formula
Case: Silverstone raven rv02

these are parts i've already decided on.

Depends what you want it for! Web browsing, email,Freecell, Video Editing, or playing the latest games at full settings on your 24" monitor? Budget?

Make sure you get a good brand of PSU and then a fast graphics card

If price really isn't a problem then investing in SSDs should speed things up as well...

+1 can't recommend a system spec unless stated what its going to be used for.

There are sites that run scientific tests of different setups specifically for this task. They'll give you a better idea of components merits than any of us will.

TomsHardware (www.tomshardware.com) is the one that I use. Look at "Best Graphics Card for the Money", "Best CPU for the Money" and the Balanced PC series.

I was interested in the AMD x6 too. Toms benched it against Intel and it turns out that while it's great for threaded apps, it's not much of a gamer. Thoroughly trounced by the i5 IIRC.

I'd go with 5850, 5870 or (if you have cash coming out your ears) 5890 and not bother with nVidia. Just pick one that's at your price range.
