View Full Version : USB Hard Drive Powering Down

Is there any registry settings that control how quickly USB drives power down? I am using one long term and every time it decides it needs to power up I go nuts waiting.
Any suggestions?

Disable hibernation / sleep / the screensaver. That may help. Its probably a power setting in control panel. What version of windows is it?

Sorry, it's on XP Pro.

It didn't occur to me that it could be using the control panel options, I have tweaked those, let's see if it is better. (I should know better)

Check power options, there is an option to spin down hard drives after a certain period of inactivity..

Check out the power management tab in the properties of your USB Root Hubs in Device Manager.
Disable the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

Right, tried the USB hub power management, let's see if that helps.

The power options in control panel didn't make any difference.
