Hello,
I am close to buying a wifi antenna to boost my range throughout the house.
Is it alright to buy it from ebay as it comes to only NZ$8.00. There is also one on trade me for $37.80.

Hong Kong is 17dbi

I have one. My father bought me like that from Hong Kong.

I do suggest you buy it from ebay as trademe is rather expensive

However I have yet to see a difference between the original antenna that came with my router and the new one

The scenario can be thought of as this:

You are standing up on a hill with a huge PA (public address) system, and you are shouting out things to people who live down at the bottom of the hill

Now imagine the people are the bottom of the hill are shouting back with just their own voices (and without a big amplifier and speakers)

They can hear you, but you can't hear them very well.

This is the same situation when you have a huge antenna on your Wireless AP but a small antenna on the PC.

If the distance from AP to clients is too long, you need better transmit power on BOTH sides, because the traffic must flow both ways.

So you should really get bigger antennas for both the WAP and the clients...
