Tonights news on TV will be all about This. (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10641576) Sure it was a tragedy but I don't know why we should get about half an hour about it on the news tonight. There will be interviews with this that and other people as will.

So have you considered the OFF switch?

Quite right, Trev, which is why I always record the news so I can skip over all that, so called, "in depth" reporting. A much better way of watching the news.

I think that TV1, in particular, could shorten the news hour to half an hour and still fit all the stories in, minus all those boring talking heads.

I imagine that if you have an hour to fill and not very much to fill it with they need to make each story as long as they can.

I'm certain that the news would be much more palatable (and shorter) if you and me were running it!

They should be honest and say nothing much happened today. We arent going to pad any news items out to fill in time, we are going to play an abba music vid or something

PC madness personified. I guess it takes everyone's mind off the economy and Phil Goff.

How many young people have been killed in car crashes in the last 30 days and no one gives a shi*?

Largely agree, fair enough having a modest length article, but something like 5-6 people die on our roads every week.

There is always a ton of international news they could use that is more interesting, but its like they try and fill a NZ content quota or something. TV 1 & 3 even spend like 20 minutes on sport every night often when there is barely anything worth mentioning, absolute snore fest.

That will certainly chase the viewers away!:groan:

Do they do strip tease or pole dance?

True. But you did assume as I watched TV3 news and the funeral got less than 5 minutes.

Well, that's bullshit. It's 10 min at the most.
And it's the most interesting 10 min, apart from when they talk about UK soccer. Who cares?

Yes I was surprised at how little time TV1 spent on the funeral. I suppose lakes Wakatipu and Wanaka flooding was more important.

Whether it's lack of money or staff, I don't think they go and look for much news. Maybe they should just read the papers and report what they've already sourced.
Bring back Town and Around.
I nominate Laura for the Southern region.

Why not the Northern region as well?

But South of the Bombay hill.

Really? You said something, and it turned out you were completely wrong. Surely that should have stopped being surprising a long time ago.

Ah, but who else noticed that John Key was wearing a yarmulke at the funeral?

I would, but I have to agree that Laura has better writing skills than I do.

I noticed that he was wearing that sick puppy smile again the one that says I just sneaked something else nasty through parliament without you all knowing until too late again
