View Full Version : External HD For Backup Question

Got a SATA 1TB external drive in a new Antec powered and cooled case (cool!) and I got it all set up on my main desktop. Runs fine and does what I want which is backs up all my data and personal files and MP3s and DVDs and such. No problem.

Maybe it's not Linux and that's why I can make it work!

Can I also just plug my Eeepc into it also via the USB and use it to backup the files from there too? The Eeepc runs Win7 and the desktop runs XP-P and the Win7 machine wants a backup and keeps asking for one.

I set up a partition about the halfway point in the 1TB external for just this purpose, but I've loaned my Eeepc out to a friend for a while and cannot tell until it gets back if this will work or not.

Can I just set it up to share that external SATA HDD with the Eeepc too?

Wot say ye?

Both Windows & Linux should be able to easily read it if it's FAT32, or if it's NTFS, no need to separate it :)

Sharing via the network is nice and easy too! It's your choice really.

Thanks. I'll try the network sharing in the AM when I get my flappy back.

Do you think it's be just as easy to let them to have their own partitions via the wireless? They are both on the same router, one by Cat5e and the other by WIFI.
