Have done Virus scan and got nothing. also done a restart and at the Dell logo screen, press <F12> and did hdd Diagnostic and it passed. Also have opened RUN and typed in
sfc /scannow and copy other the stock windows files. Also windows updates is upto date.

Did you remove them in spybot? Theyre not errors, theyre spyware / malware. I would use malwarebytes. You can tick these then tick fix checked. Close browser/s. Or delete them in ccleaner under startup

Uninstall all versions of java, its out of date. Then update it

Try here (http://support.ap.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=nz&l=en&s=lca&ServiceTag=&SystemID=PLX_PNT_P4_745&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=) for the relevant Dell downloads.

22-04-2010, 09:46 PM
Have uninstall the old java and updated.

Yeh looked on the downloads page but cant find the resource cd. I have had 1 for a GX520 off there site before but cant find a 745.

Speedy Gonzales
22-04-2010, 09:51 PM
So is it any better since you removed those entries? What does the cd have on it?? If its got the apps /drivers on it, just download all of them then burn them

22-04-2010, 10:51 PM
Yeh I also removed a couple of the startup programs and it is going ok at moment hasnt frooze yet and restarted it 3 times.

Dell Resource CD is a Drivers and Utilities disc included with all Dell Desktops and Portable computers, its main purpose is to provide drivers, however it includes a set of tools that could help you troubleshooting and restore your system.

Speedy Gonzales
22-04-2010, 11:14 PM
Get everything here (http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&ServiceTag=&SystemID=PLX_PNT_P4_745&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=) extract the zip files (if there are any) then burn them.

They'll probably do the same thing

23-04-2010, 09:06 AM
The Dell Diagnostic Utility in the link I provided is the same as on the resource CD.

23-04-2010, 01:42 PM
Right. After about 30mins after I typed that last post the pc freezed when I tryed to open a PDF and a restart the pc would only load to the welcome screen again like it was doing. after about a hour of restarting the pc and opening it up and checking all cables I have got into windows again but its not nice. There was 4865 files in the tmp folder under windows.

Running a virus scan at moment and spybot again.

The only things pluged into the pc is my monitor and wireless keyboard/mouse set and printer but its off.

Have removed the power cable and held the power buttom it and left it for 5 mins but was still freezing at welcome screen.

Im out of ideas now.

Tryed putting the Dell Diagnostic Utility on USB drive but its not booting on startup so cant check if its a hardware error.

Get rid of spybot and use malwarebytes and do a full scan. Remove the hdd and put it in another system, if you've got one. Then scan it

23-04-2010, 03:26 PM
Ok will get that now and run it. no other system to test hdd in will not fit in my netbook. :(

23-04-2010, 08:14 PM
Right download and installed it and got 4 things.

What should I do.

Speedy Gonzales
23-04-2010, 08:34 PM
Click on remove selected to remove them, then reboot. No point leaving them there

23-04-2010, 08:43 PM
Done and it restarted ok and hasnt freezed yet.

Just 1 other thing I just seen there is 2 OS installed on the same HDD both are XP pro how do I remove the other os thats not used?

Mite this be the problem having 2 OS of th same type installed on the same partion. Dont no why there is.

Speedy Gonzales
23-04-2010, 08:53 PM
2 OS's are fine, if they're on different partitions (on the same hdd). I've done that here. Does EasyBCD (http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1) work with XP ?

23-04-2010, 09:13 PM
Thing is they are both on the same partition. Any way to remove the other 1 without formating the full partion?

Speedy Gonzales
23-04-2010, 09:30 PM
I doubt they're on the same partition, 1 would have formatted the other, when you installed it. Press the windows key (if the kb has it) + pause. Go to advanced tab / startup and recovery / settings. Then the top option. Then click on edit. Copy and paste whats in boot.ini here

23-04-2010, 09:54 PM
[boot loader]
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S.0
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS.0="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Speedy Gonzales
23-04-2010, 10:04 PM
It maybe this entry

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS.0="Mic rosoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Since its got WINDOWS.0, the other has WINDOWS.

When you reboot, do you get a menu to select either?

This is the default boot.ini for XP Pro

[boot loader]
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

23-04-2010, 11:00 PM
Yeh has a menu to pick what 1 I want to boot. boot the 1 without the .0 on it.

Speedy Gonzales
23-04-2010, 11:30 PM
Delete the windows.0 entry in boot.ini go to save as, select all files (under save as) then save it (say yes to overwrite it) then reboot. Then it should boot into XP without the menu

24-04-2010, 07:05 PM
? cant work out how to do that last post. need a little more help.

Speedy Gonzales
24-04-2010, 07:25 PM

27-04-2010, 12:13 AM
Ok PC is going good now and no more freezing or any thing but just got a error pop up. I have only got internet explorer running with 2 tabs open. only other thing I have done on the pc tonight is open a pdf and save a photo off a camera to the pc.

Speedy Gonzales
27-04-2010, 12:17 AM
Try this (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826513). It'll probably apply, even if you dont have office

27-04-2010, 12:33 AM
Yeh got office 2007

Speedy Gonzales
27-04-2010, 12:37 AM
So, did you follow it? How much ram is in it / how much is left? How much space is left on the hdd?

27-04-2010, 12:42 AM
I have got 4gb of ram in pc 2x2gb sticks. hdd is a 500gb hdd with a 80gb partition for windows thats got 56gb free on it. The other partition has 240gb free on it.

I havent changed any settings yet.

Paging file size:
Initial size (MB) has got 384. in it.
Maximum size (MB) has got 768 in it.

Speedy Gonzales
27-04-2010, 12:46 AM
Is that on system managed?

27-04-2010, 01:59 AM
Thats from the Virtual memory panal from the link you posted.

Speedy Gonzales
27-04-2010, 09:17 AM
Yeah but is yours on system managed size?? Or did you set the amount of ram?

27-04-2010, 07:49 PM
It was on that amount when I went in to it.
