View Full Version : Computer won't recognize I have a widescreen monitor.

As you all know, I recently just wiped my hard drive and started over.

I am slowly but surely getting things going, but now my computer won't recognize my widescreen. I had been running on 1650 x 1080 or whatever resolution (widescreen).

But now after re-doing everything, it is only offering me standard resolutions 800x600, 1024x768, etc.

Seems like there should be a simple fix for this?

It's an XPS laptop by the way, so I suppose I should have been saying "screen" instead of "monitor."

Downloaded the latest drivers yet?

You need to install the latest drivers for your graphics card. Once this is done, the resolution should be back to normal.

Ugh. Can't set up the internet in order to download those drivers. This is driving me freaking nuts...

Both your threads are regarding the same issue mate - you've installed an OS but not drivers.

Dont forget the chipset drivers as well

Since it's a laptop, see if you can take it round to a mates house who will let you download the drivers.

Well, the thing is, I installed all the drivers that came on the drivers CD that came with the laptop originally. You would think that the drivers on there would work to get my wireless going, but I guess not.

I have a Dell XPS M170...

So, any idea what drivers I would need to get this thing going? I went to the dell site but there are a ton - many of them are the same ones which I installed off the CD that came with it but that did nothing...
