Just wondering if laptops come with Firewire 400/800, I have not seen any but if you have than could you please tell me the Brand/Model.

Thanks

I currently have a HP Compaq NX6120 that I am fixing, that has a 4-circuit alpha FireWire 400 connector.

Edit: Guessing you do not want to consider apple laptops?

Nope, can't afford them.. :p but was just wondering, eSata might just have to do for now ;)

there are a few out there. My mate had an asus that had firewire as well. Or you could just get a PCMCIA or Express card that has firewire ports.

Will be copying stuff off P2 cards onto an external drive for backup. The P2 cards will be connected to an Express Card adaptor that goes in the expansion slot. Firewire to an external drive would have made the copy process faster since there is around 50 - 100 gigs of files backed up daily. eSata should be fine for now. thanks for you help.

I wouldn't have thought laptops with Firewire were uncommon. My ASUS M51VR laptop has Firewire and e-SATA. The Firewire port appears to have 4-pins so that makes it a 400 I'm guessing.

FW comes in 4 and 6pin for the 400, I think the 4 pin is the miniFW jack.

Sony laptops were big on FW for a while. It looks like their F series has it

My Asus A6U laptop has a firewire port and according to the manual it is 100-400 Mbits/sec.
