google red sn0w. I would post a direct link but it would probably get deleted. You dont need to use itunes to use this one either.

They should be in your docs & settings folder after iTunes has downloaded them.

red sn0w says it can't recognize the ispw. I even rebooted my ipod to that firmware, and it still didn't recognize it. Anyone know of a different jailbreak method?

Did you read the instructions? Redsn0w can't use the 3.1.3 ipsw, but it can still jailbreak it on non-MC 2nd gen iPod touches. Just feed redsn0w the 3.1.2 ipsw and everything will be fine...

thanks.
didn't work though. Said it had done, but nothing installed. it says 'the rest of this will be done on you ipod', but nothing happens.

Does your iPod's serial number start or end with the letters 'MC'?

jonathan

and... now it doesn't work. I try to restore the iPod to a custom firmware made by sn0wbreexe, but I get the attached error.

Thats what happens, when you have no idea what youre doing

jonathan

yeah. kind of figured that a while ago. But, I am doing everything it says to do, so it should work.

Whats on a touch to jailbreak anyway? I thought that was only for Iphones?

jonathan

Well, you can edit the home screen back ground, and install 3-rd party apps. Anyway, nothings working for me. I will give red sn0w one more try, then give up for a while. Thanks anyway.

Read the instructions.
Follow *all* of them, in the correct order - it will work.
Occasionally redsn0w will glitch - restarting the jailbreak process will sort it out.

Whats on a touch to jailbreak anyway? All the same stuff you'd jailbreak an iPhone for. Note that jailbreaking is *not* the same thing as a SIM unlock.

I thought that was only for Iphones?Nope - jailbreaking covers a lot more than just iPhones.

see, with red sn0w, it says 'this process is done. everything else will take place on you ipod' and yet nothing happens on the ipod. The screen just stays blank. and when I restart it, it just goes to a normal home screen, no cydia, no nothing.

From start to finish during the process, what do you see on your iPod's screen?

Which version of redsn0w are you using?

start to finish, nothing. just a black screen.

version, 0.9.2, and then 0.9.4

start to finish, nothing. just a black screen. Then you didn't follow the instructions - DFU mode results in a white screen.

version, 0.9.2, and then 0.9.40.9.4 is the correct one to use - 0.9.2 won't work with the image you're using.

I do eveything it tells me to do to get into dfu mode. I have also tried all the tutorials on YouTube. Am I missing something?

You're probably just getting the timing wrong - you have to be rather precise. Note that it needs to be switched completely off before you start.

jonathan

How exact does the timing need to be?

Erayd
21-03-2010, 04:16 PM
It needs to be very close to the timings that redsn0w displays.

when red sn0w gives the instructions to put into dfu mode,(hold down power button for 3 secs, etc.), it says 'then release the power button while still hoding down the home button for 30 secs', but for me, after 10 secs, it goes to the attached phase, and the ipod is black, and unresponsive. have to restore it to get it to reboot.

Jailbreaking is obviously not for you
