Try this (http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/msestart/thread/908fad3e-f9fc-4d8a-be83-ae7d3bc48db5). Were any beta versions installed ?

Did someone delete this folder? All Users\Desktop ?? According to one of the posts above, it was fixed when the guy recreated this folder

Check task manager, see if any instances of msiexec.exe are running before you install it again. If there is, kill them first. Then see what happens. It looks like its a windows installer prob. But you cant reinstall it by the looks of it.

Since its a later version that whats on the MS site

msiexec is not running in task manager. i think this problem is related to
my previous post about unable to install two updates
http://pressf1.co.nz/showthread.php?t=107667

if its installer problem, can you tell me how i can uninstall current version and install new one?

You downloaded Windows Installer 4.5?

Dont think WI 4.5 will work / install in Win7. Since it uses WI 5.0

Try this (http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Fix-WU-Download-143759.html) for the other prob you had . Unzip it then run the file in it. It looks like it fixed it for this guy (http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-update/68815-kb979306-update-creating-big-problems.html). He's even posted your link there
