Hi all,

I am going to wipe my sons Vista PC and load on win7.
I can see no problems accomplishing that, however...

He has itunes on there with about 40GB of music. What is the best way to backup, then transfer all that to the new win7 install.
I have done a lot of googling and found numerous different ways of doing this.
Has anyone had any experience with this?
Can anyone direct me to a site with a guaranteed way of doing this?
god help me if i get it wrong...:waughh:

Many thanks in advance.

Do this often on Customers PC's - Go into the Itunes folder in Vista. Copy the complete folder containing the Music to an external HDD.

Install W7 - install Itunes.

Open the Itunes Folder in My Music / Itunes / Itunes music/ Music -- Copy from the external drive all the music to that folder - open Itunes - if it doesn't pick it up, click File / Add Folder to Library - Navigate to the Itunes Music / Music folder, select it -- all your music will appear - Works every time I have done it.

Only thing it doesn't do is you have to reactivate your account on that PC if you have purchased any music from Itunes.

Thanks Wainui, I'll try that tomorrow.
If I screw it up, I may have to sleep on your couch....

One thing I always do, and thats COPY not cut/paste.

If you Copy and something goes wrong, big deal, the original is still there, if you CUT and something goes wrong you can sometimes lose the lot.

Having it on an external drive as well, insures there is a backup in the case of a drive failure sometime.
