Greetings
W7 has installed okay but when I run the defrag prog the PC shuts down.
Other programs work well!
Recently installed a new mother board ASUS p4s333 1.5gb ram 80 hdd.

Any comments will be greatfully received...Kotui

Welcome to PF1.

Shuts done as in a sudden power cut, or shuts down as if doing it on purpose ( logs off)

Have you installed motherboard drivers, are Win7 drivers even available for a 2002 vintage board?, most likely why it's shutting down ;). Or maybe you have a defective mobo (badcaps (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/Leakycaps1267242877.jpg)), or undersize/defective power supply unit.

Could be overheating. Do you get a blue screen?

Could also be Faulty RAM. You can download memtest (http://www.memtest86.com/download.html) - burn the ISO file and boot from the CD.

Sounds a bit Odd though if it only shuts down with defrag. Approx how long after starting defrag does it crash.

Hi thanks for the reply
Mother board checks out ok with MS compatabiliy prog for w7

Pwr supply voltages seem to be a touch under the ideal. The cpu seems to work hard at times per the gadget meter. The ram sticks around the 30-40% mark.

After a couple of minutes into defrag.
It also shut down the same when installing picasa pics, had been running for some time...A hugh amount of pics over 3 drives. 73 Kotui
