A mateís got a Telecom 027 phone (cdma I Think?) on a contract basis. (Not Pre-Pay).

He wants to bring it to Australia for a brief holiday but doesnít want work related calls and associated roaming costs following him and interfering with his holiday. However, he'd like to be able to use it if need be.

So, the question is: Do these phones have SIM cards you can replace with say a Pre-Pay Aus card? My Vodafone is easy, just slip in a prepay Sim Card and youíre away, but Iím not familiar with 027, CDMA, interchangeability.

Any help appreciated. :thanks

Telecom CDMAs don't have sim cards. So you are out of luck with that.

Take the phone with him, and keep it switched off?

CDMA was switched off in Aussie a few years ago

Yeah Telstra killed the Oz CDMA network back in April 2008. Any XT phone will work on the Telstra 3G or Next G network though, I'm pretty sure they run on 2100Mhz over there.

XT phones won't work here in NZ though :banana

So just to clarify matters, I take it that heís stuffed anyway, even with roaming?

I base that on the fact there is no cdma network in Aus.

It would be the perfect time for your friend to buy an unlocked phone while he's over in Aussie though. If he gets the right one he could go with Vodafone, Telecom or 2Degrees when he gets back.

Next G is 850Mhz in metro and rural areas
3G (50% owned by Telstra and 3 network) is 2100Mhz in metro areas

Yeah they did closed CDMA network back in 2008, it was supposed to be closed January 2008.

Are you seriously suggesting their opinions matter ? ;)

Being the largest city in New Zealand I would hope so.

Do you mean having more rectums than elsewhere means they have to like 3rd rate phones?
