Win7 home prem. after a while my sound icon has red cross on. Trouble shooter says no system plugged in. ( rubbish) Reboot pc and all is good for a while. Have checked in device manager and all seems ok ( to me !) and has checked for updated drivers .. no change.

any ideas please?

Interesting you should mention that, I've got a mate who's also got the same issue, Win7 Ultimate.

What's your Motherboard / Soundcard?

Try something like this: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprohardware/thread/6a087ea5-1a3f-4d29-9582-5e24703d2177

Sounds similar to firewire on the other (old) PC here. First time, it said there were no resources for it. So, formatted the hdd again and now its fine.

Did you install the latest Drivers from Intel From Here (http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18307&ProdId=2783&lang=eng) - only came out on the 11th.

Hang on - which board is it ??? look on the box they should have given you that the board came in - NOT the invoice.

Or on the board itself.

ok DQ35Joe

Link in No 8 is from Intels site, latest drivers for that model, well almost its for the DQ35JO Should be close enough, as the E can be simply an enhancement or something. Many boards (models) use the same driver.

Thanks have installed that 70mb download.. Ran in compatability mode as per previous link. Bit confused as only compatible with vista but carried on.
Have rebooted ,, sound is back .. we will see how long for.

The driver date in device manager says 21 10 2009 ??

There's a win 7 32 / 64 bit install

yep downloaded that ok but ..read somewhere to install in compatability mode .
Still working .. will revisit if it bombs again.

OPPS! my mistake, :o read it wrong about the date thats 2nd November 2009 ( Damn yanks always have the day/month round the wrong way to every one else)

On the actual drive download
Ver:5964 Date:11/2/2009

OS:Windows 7, 32-bit*, Windows 7, 64-bit*, Windows Vista 32*, Windows Vista 64*, Windows XP Home Edition*, Windows XP Media Center Edition*, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition*, Windows XP Professional*

Seems its the same driver for both 32 & 64 Bit- but some may experience problems with 64 XP without the patch.

read somewhere to install in compatability mode Yep - I read that to someplace - shouldn't have to.

One other thing I was reading - dont happen to have a blue tooth audio device do you, sometimes if you do the sound drivers can switch over to different devices and kill the other as the default.

hmm wonder if our resident script wizard could write a script that changes the date around?

hmm wonder if our resident script wizard could write a script that changes the date around? For the whole of the USA -- That would be some feat

Be easier to just exclude the Americans from being able to post dates onto the internet
