View Full Version : Wireless with Wired Network

Hi ya people!

I was wondering if someone can enlighten me as to the possibility (and the how, if possible) of networking a wireless enabled laptop with a desktop).

The desktop is running Windows 7 64 bit and has access to the internet via a modem, the laptop has access to the internet via a wireless N-Router attached to the modem.

The laptop is running Windows Vista.

I was wondering how I can network these computers together wirelessly, if possible.

I appreciate any help and advice. :thanks

You may have to install a wireless adapter , if you want it to have wireless. Even tho you've got a wireless router, you still need a wireless adapter

Quite simple, the Modem is connected to a Router OR if you have ADSL a modem/Router all in one is better, then both the PC and Laptop connect to the Router ( PC can be hard Wired Eg: Ethernet cable) - make sure both are on the same work group, share what ever, and both can talk to one another, and share the same internet connection.

As my Dog would say Ruff Ruff sketch (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/Snap_2010.01.31_22.07.15_005.jpg) :D

My laptop recognises the Desktop network. But when I click on the network icon of the desktop (the Windows 7 machine) on my laptop then it asks for a user name.

How do i find the username of my network on my Windows 7 machine?

Start > Right click on "Computer" > select "Properties"

you find it all there

There wont be a user name in W7 - its in the security settings, click start, type in Advanced, from the results, select Manage Advanced Sharing Settings As shown Here (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/Advanced.jpg) - when it opens, scroll down the bottom and select "turn off password protected sharing.

In fact set your settings Like these (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/Settings.jpg) and you wont have any problems with W7 sharing ;)
