Hi, we got the gas oven fitted. A few questions cos we have only used older ovens.

What is heating from the top and bottom?

Is bake (heating from bottom) and fan - a pizza oven setting?

What is 3D hot air (without a top or bottom heating element)?

We've only had an oven that did grill (heat from top) or bake (heat from bottom) and fanless :D
We read the manual but it doesn't say much. Ie., top and bottom heating is for cake tins but recipes tend to say bake 200 degrees so that is generally the bottom heat only  or sometimes quoted bake with fan - bottom heat with fan so what is both top and bottom?
It says bottom heat only is for final stage for browning .....

Cheers.

Read the manual, or look for it online

In general you have the top going for grilling and both elements going for general cooking. Cakes, casseroles, roasting etc. All the fan dose is to distribute the hot air around the oven more evenly for more even cooking eg. so the your roast chicken dose not turn out cooked on top and half cooked underneath.

With cookbooks they tend to say bake or grill so that is the bottom or top element only right? Or maybe with the fan as well.

When would I use 3D hot air?

Most ovens in NZ are electric and the hobs can be gas, you say your oven is gas, is that right?

If it is gas, that is a whole new ballgame to cooking.

and you cook at a lower temp and for a shorter time with the fan going.

There are some gas ovens still available, although they tend to be the cheap no name brands and pharmco. From my experience gas ovens aren't as good at cooking as electric. Also my old gas oven had a sperate grill underneath the oven. There was no actual grill inside the oven.
