DVD to PS3

I would like some information on a very simple way of converting a DVD to transfer to my PS3, Iv'e googled and it comes back with FREE download only to buy the software, there are heaps of programmes out. But there must an easy way of doing it convert a DVD to AVI which should work? I have found some tutorials but they are in depth. Does anyone know of a freeware software that would do it?

Won't a PS3 play a DVD anyway?

Why and what do you need to convert?

Another couple -- Xmedia Recode (http://www.xmedia-recode.de/) or Here as well (http://www.digital-digest.com/software/XMedia_Recode.html) - the original is in German, but you install in English.

Also Autogk (http://www.autogk.me.uk/).

These DONT do Copy Protected DVD's.

VLC Player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) will also rip/convert a DVD to many formats.

A PS3 can play Bluray, so it should play DVDs without any conversion.

I realize that just want to rip a DVD on the PC then transfer it to the PS3 hard drive for keeps sake or delete it if not required!

The odds are that it is not going to be in HD anyway, so why go to the bother?

Hi Micky

There is a Freeware Program the converts between most formats including the ones you are interested in. I uninstalled all the others because this one is the ultimate. Yah can't beat FORMAT FACTORY (http://www.brothersoft.com/download-formatfactory-98431.html).

There is even a portable version (http://wdtech.net/Windows/Audio-Multimedia/Video-Tools/Format-Factory-Portable.html)for a flash drive.

BURNZEE Thought I'd give it a try :groan: how does the saying go -- A picture is worth a thousand words (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/Capture1263540041.png) it creates links to ebay. While ebay may not be damaging, they dont tell you till AFTER you have installed it.

Hmm according to WOT (http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/brothersoft.com) that site is full of malicious content. According to users

Hi Wainuitech

Thanks for that. Repeated the dose with same results. Have to find a site to download Format Factory from that has a clean version.

BURNZEE I told MSSE to delete the threat, which it did, then let it install. Did another scan and it came up clean.

Looks like the link to ebay was the problem, the program still opened OK and appeared to function -- nothing to convert right now -- typical eh!

Hi Guys

Sorry 'bout the problems, should have checked the links myself. According to Mircosoft the Trogan that gets installed with Format Factory is via the e-bay shortcut or e-bay.exe. Allow your anti-virus to get rid of it and fully delete any e-bay.exe shortcuts on your desktop or quick launch bar. This does not prevent the program working. The installer gives you an option to install the ASK toolbar etc. Just for good measure untick them.

While not a good thing to happen, this does not distract from the usefulness of Format Factory. One program to do most format conversions.

Install it, following the above suggestions, then do a full anti-virus check to satisfy yourself the program is now clean.

I never notice that sort of thing due to my reliance on Noscript and Adblock :D
