Hi there

A few months back we had our family videos tapes transferred commercially to DVD, all went well.

But I like to edit/copy parts out of them and take snapshots within the DVD so Im looking for some software to do the job. The DVDs are in the usual format (VOB, IFO files etc).

Ive installed an run CDVD to view the files, which seems to work OK, but I cant get the Snap Image to work, but it has no editing or snap image facility.

Thanks in anticipation.

John in Mosgiel.

Windows XP with SP3

Will Windows Movie Maker open/edit VOB IFO files? I tried opening any file in the DVD, no go, says it cannot open VOB files.

Your going to have to rip the content of the DVD, No drama as there will be no copy protection as its not a commercial product.

Handbrake will do it, as will a sqillion others, and then you can edit the resulting AVI.

Having said that you could also just copy teh VOB files to your PC and then convert them to AVI or edit them with a suitable app, VOB files are merely MPG's.

OK, hers whats happened.

In a section of the Family Video VOB1 file, someone has included a TV program which I want to Delete/Cut/Remove.

I have AVS4You Converter, which happily opens the VOB file and when I click on the Edit button, I get another editing screen. Ive set the Front and End markers on the part I want removed, but I cant go any further.

I tried everything I can think of, right clicking etc but nowhere can I cut/remove the offending section.

Assistance appreciated.

TMPGEnc DVD Author will enable you to delete unwanted scenes :)

Thanks for the tip. I was kind of hoping for a Freeware program, being unemployed at present, I cant afford the $60US they want. Nothing I can find on P2P either.

Looks like this freeware will do the job:-

Nero / nerovision will probably do it, but

1. Its not free forever
2. Its bloatware

For those going down this path, I suggest you avoid the following programs...

Remember, Im wanting to delete a TV program that was occidentally added to the middle of a 3hr family video tape. I need to edit/cut from these file VTS_01_1 VTS_01_2 VTS_01_3 VTS_01_4 VTS_01_5. I see the DVD is made up of Chapters. Of the approx 50 chapeters in the DVD, I need to remove approx 20.

Ive tried and dont recommend Free Studio Manager, FLVDirect, DVDFlick, VTS files are not supported or wont import.

One of these MAY work (http://www.smallvideosoft.com/)

One of them MAY convert it to WMV format, then you can load / edit it with Movie maker. Altho the converted file may or may not end up out of sync. Which can happen

You could recode it first with http://www.xmedia-recode.de/ or something like it and then use DVD VideoSoft Video dub
