Just wondering if anyone keeps getting called by the following phone number, advertising a free holiday. They seem to know my name, and phone number. They called me a few days ago, and I told them I wasn't interested. They then phoned again today, and I asked to speak to their manager, and they hung up. I guess there is nothing I can do, but this offshore phone scam spam is only going to get worse I suspect. Just warning people who get this number appearing on their caller display, that it is very likely to be a scam.

1300 is an Australian calling number, like 0900 here.

Yes, but you have to keep going to the phone, wasting my time. ON the caller display it shows that they have phoned more than 10 times! It is a nusience. They are obviously a scam, because what company would hang up, when you ask to speak to their manager. They have said they are an Australian travel company. I see that http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/001300123456, that they have also pissed off other people. At least I have got caller display so I can vet the call.

Yeah, I had something similar about a week ago..

And being the boring person I am, I played along. I acted really stupid and kept asking the same question over and over. I like playing with those people.

I didn't get the number, but I won a free holiday to some place all expense paid thing, they were setting a new business up or something.

A long time back someone mentioned an agency that you can regiser with to stop receiving these phone spam calls. I have been inundated with calls recently from (very) Indian callers tying to interest me in a NZ auction site (I won't put the site as I refuse to advertise them). When I asked how to get off their list, they requested an email address and a mobile number. I laughed heartily. If anyone can tell me who the call-blocking agency were and how they work, I will be eternally grateful.

Found it :)

Here (http://www.marketing.org.nz) - but I don't think they can help me as this call very definitely came from an overseas call centre. But I might try them anyway....

If you could vet the caller it would be helpful in future. (In the same way that unlucky cats or dogs get vetted.)

Let me guess, starts with 'a' ends in 'z' and has a 'd' in the middle? Glad you didn't post their name or website - why give them free advertising.

However, there is very interesting reading to be had here (http://scambusters.co.nz/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4966&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0) about that website and its owner. It is such a classy website this is what they have under the "About" page - This is an example of a WordPress page, you could edit this to put information about yourself or your site so readers know where you are coming from. You can create as many pages like this one or sub-pages as you like and manage all of your content inside of WordPress.. Not surprised they left this page blank.

Dodgy, dodgy ....

Actually no. It starts with a 'b, ends in 'z' and has a 'd' in the middle. Having given the caller a piece of my mind, I think she has encouraged others to call me. Got a call last night (Sunday) at 10pm selling me vouchers for holidays anywhere in NZ/Oz for A$119. Now she really got a roasting. But as I told her at the end of the call, I had probably saved 5 or 6 other people from listening to her drivel :D

Good luck to you if the calls originate overseas..
