I have the following problem probably an old one however don't seem to be able to rectify it.

Operating System is Vista-Once loaded i get Windows explorer stopped working. The error clears and I can continue working normally.

I'm sure this has been a common problem but I don't know what to do to clear it.

Can anyone offre some advice please.

Have you tried doing a system restore to before the problem began? Also does the error happen when booting into safe mode?

Also it would help to post the exact error because some of the genius's here might be able to help more if they knew it.

the following is a log from a quick scan for malware.

Update malwarebytes after you reboot, its just been updated to 1.43.

Highlight those entries it picked up first, then tick remove selected I think it says. Then do a full scan again.

You can tick these entries in the hijackthis log, then tick fix checked

Close browsers

Uninstall historykill and install ccleaner. It does the same thing

I would use something better than windows defender. Then install SP1 and 2, then the updates

Thanks Speedy will start processing. What would you recommend other than Windows Defender. I have been using zone alarm for sometime.

Not that pc savvy so hope I am talking the same lingo with defender and zone alarm

You could try Avast home which is free. But, you have to register it on the Avast site and it'll send you a key (it goes for 18 mths I think). Then you have to go back and get another key. Or NOD32 if you want to pay for it. Microsoft Security Essentials. Is free. But your OS needs to be legit, for it to install

Oops missed one, you can tick this and tick fix checked too

This is what malwarebytes picked up

Malware found only 1 of the 2 problems after I updated it (Backdoor Bot) but when I try to fix problem malware locks up.

Speedy I did manage to delete backdoor bot through Malwarebytes and have also fix the entries you suggested through the Hijack this log. It appears as those my problems have been resolved.

I very much appreciate your help and patience. Trust you have a happy new year and once again thank you.

David

Sweet ! If you havent updated malwarebytes yet, just update it then do a full scan. And let it remove whatever it picks up.

You have a good NY too :)
