Are you using CDR's?? Use something like cdburnerxp, if theyre MP3's

Check what the audio conig is too, for wmp it will only play mp3 or similar or wav, unless you have the codecs.

I think he means its fine in windows. BUT, wont play on a standalone cd player. It depends WHAT version of WMP is installed. Since WMP 12 can play DVD and MP4 too natively

What we need to know is what you are trying to rip, copy or whatever.
We also need to know what the CD/DVD standalone is capable of playing.

I don't have enough info to help yet.

For instance I can rip audio CDs and change them to MP3s then play in my car player.

I can fit around 200 mp3s on one CD in that format.

What you need to do is have a program ( like the one Speedy suggested) that will take the music on the PC, ( prob mp3 or similar) to .cda format - this is the standard format for normal CD players in a house hold stereo.
Personally I use Ashampoo burning studio - real easy to use Screenshot (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/Ashampoo.jpg) - next step you navigate to the files - click next a few times - Done.

There are free versions on lots of Magazines If you want it, you can download it from Here (http://softbuzz.net/Windows/CD-DVD-Tools/CD-DVD-Burning/Ashampoo-Burning-Studio_51.html) - I can PM with the legal free key ( if you want) - you just need to untick a few things you may not want (quick links etc).

Sweep

Also if you don't close the burn it is very unlikely to play in a stand alone player.

Do not use a multisession burn.

Thanks to you all for answering.

I seem to have got somewhere, downloading Speedy app.

I burnt a disc with MP3's.

The interesing bit is,it plays on my sterio, but not on my car CD player.
What am I to make of that?

rob_on_guitar

Yea, if it doesn't support mp3s then it wont play.
Otherwise you will have to burn as 'audio'.

It say on new car cd player that it supports MP3 WMA MOS-Fet.etc.
Also I have played MP3's via a USB drive?

Are you burning as a data disc?
I cant see what the issue would if you're burning as mp3 or wma, I guess you may have a dud disc (which is not uncommon) or the disc hasn't enough space for the amount your putting on it, but I think most burners tell you that anyway

Hi Rob......
The disc plays on my stereo,so it can't be a dud.
If it plays on my stereo it must have sufficient room on it.

I'm guessing its the player, as speedy said you may only be able to play via the flash drive.
If you want you could google the make and model of the stereo and that should tell you the exact specs etc

Coasters ?? that's a bit odd, what format are the original music tracks in & are the CD's CD-R's ???

What I'll do tomorrow is post pictures of a full "Making of a CD" -- More just for confirmation.

The only time I have had coasters when doing an audio CD is when it was in a format the programs couldn't determine or burning to fast for the PC to keep up. Normally I use mp3 as the original.

SWMBO wants me to make a Audio CD from tracks I got for her (girls songs) -- Her boy friend Ronan Keating ;) from Itunes.

There must be something about this guy, 0f whom us guys with perfectly attuned hearing can't understand!!

SWMBO goes weak at the knees when she sees him on TV. Sound doesn't even have to be on so she can listen to his mellifluous tones?

Seems strange to me. Anyone tell me why this is so?

My mistake last night - they were purchased through Digirama, as they dont have DRM in them, unlike Itunes - but you can still do it via Itunes.

Make sure all the songs are in mp3 format, using a CD-R.
1. Open the programs, select Burn or rip Music / Create Audio CD Step 1 (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/Open.jpg)
2. Click the Add Button - Add (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/Add_1.jpg).
3. Navigate tothe folder(s) that have the song, select the ones you want, in this case I want all Click Add (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/Add_2.jpg). Once added they will show Under (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/Add_3.jpg)the window, click finish
4. bottom right hand corner, click Next - as long as the CD is OK you will get This window (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/CD_OK.jpg).
5. On the bottom right I click Change options (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/Options1261952216.jpg) and select the slowest burn speed. - Click OK when changed.
6. Bottom right - click Write CD (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/Write_CD.jpg). It will Prepare the Tracks (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/Preparing.jpg) - then Write them (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/Writing.jpg) - if you want to see the details, click on the "show Details" top right Example (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/Details.jpg) - as you can see it automatically finalizes the CD so nothing more can be added to it.

If you open My Computer, or Computer - look at the Optical drive you'll See the tracks (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/Tracks.jpg) in .cda

SHOULD play now.

Edited: plays fine in the lounge stereo, ( have not tried in the PC though)

Put original CD/DVD into drive, open Ashampoo - click on " Copy a CD/DVD/Blu -Ray Disc" - As long as the disc is readable you get the green tick, click Next - it copies the disc - Next - it spits out the original once copied, put in identical Disc, if CD put in a Blank CD, if DVD - blank DVD - change the write speed (I do) Click Write Disc -- it spits it out once done.

Edited: I always lower the speed - dont usually have problems with making coasters then - and the slower speed only takes a minute or longer.

Under the options you can make as many copies as you want by changing the number - the default is 1.

The keys sometimes can be a "little inconsistent" if you type them in - normally work though. If it doesn't then copy/paste usually does.

The key is the free one that they give away when doing a promotion, a quick search of google and its plastered every where.

Try this -- Heres the key

Download revouninstaller Portable is better( if you dont already have it) - run it and take out Ashampoo , including its reg keys ( advanced mode) then reinstall Ashampoo 2010, but make sure you enter the key provided at the very end. If you dont remove the left over reg keys, it will try to put back the same upgraded version.

Make a restore point first, just in case it turns pear shaped.
