What is the kind of grease used in these applications and where could I get some?

Out of another drive?

You could try the Wacker brand silicon grease/paste (P 4) available from some electrical wholesalers. I've found it pretty handy in this sort of application, it doesn't dry/separate out and seems to attract less dust than conventional greases.
