Okay, I am going out today to buy a laptop as a retirement present for someone at our work.

She is just going to be using it for web, and maybe some wordprocessing, but nothing significant.

I have narrowed it down to:-

HP Pavilion DV6-2008AX, or Compaq Presario CQ61-325TU

Considering what she is going to be doing I would have thought the Compaq would be okay.

Peoples thoughts and opinions.....

Thanks

Better off not getting a compaq if you can avoid it. Asus or Toshiba. Where are you looking at getting it from?

PB has some good prices on this years tosh models at the moment.

Any laptops these days are fine for that work. We still have a old laptop that is a Pentium 3 for that purchase attached to a larger screen when one of the big PC motherboard went poof.

HP and Compaq not the best brands.
Asus are good, Toshiba good too and IBM IMO.

Cool...pretty much any vista notebook you get now should have the cheap win7 upgrade option - ask dse. You definitely do want win7

Any Asus or Toshiba laptop will do if you are only doing basic stuff, unelss you need specific features such as extra long battery life, or eSata ports etc.

This one is pretty good, and should last a while:

Thanks everyone for the feedback and advice.

Have bought the Toshiba...wish it was going to me except for the 14" screen.
