Is anyone else experiencing slow rapidshare(premium) speeds on big time? I know it's not my own dl speed because I can download off megashares.com and iTunes at around 850kBs.
I'm getting around 100kBs

Hey there, might be the terms and conditions.

"Big Time

Big Time is a traffic-managed plan unlike any other in New Zealand. On this plan there are no data caps and no overage charges, it's just a broadband plan that lets everyone in the house use the Internet as often as they like - without paying a fortune for it.

However, because of this we manage all the traffic on Big Time. When the network is busy (generally inside the hours of 9am and 2am) you may noticed reduced speeds; in particular you are likely to see reduced speeds in relation to file sharing."

So they specifically targeted RapidShare or just all file services?

All. It'll probably be the same for P2P programs

Try downloading the same file from another mirror

They throttle https connections to 40KB/sec too, to prevent that kind of thing ;)

Hey narutophantom

Same for me as well. When I downloaded with Jdownloader I was between 70 - 200kbps, now it goes no higher than 40kbps. That's part of the plan unfortunately.

Odd. I can get up to 200KB/s it usually sits around 100-130 during peak hours.

If I use Rapidshare I get about 8KB/s

That's only using free, I don't have an account. It would probably go faster if I paid for it and used multiple connections with a download manager

Try using downthemall with firefox. I find that generally improves things, I don't use RS but it's worth a go. Last Monday Telecom somehow uncapped big time, I downloaded 1.5GB of top gear in half an hour, averaged 730kbps or something silly. Very, very nice. Shame it only took them about a day to cap it again. :(

Yeah.. I don't understand it. It's all over the place.

For example I bought and downloaded Modern Warfare 2 from Steam a week ago. It was downloading at 1.5mbps!!! - It only took around 3/4 hours..

A few days ago I bought and downloaded Batman Arkham Asylum and it was going at 40kb for the whole time, it took 3 days.

I''ve now bought and downloaded Dragon Age: Origins and it's downloading at 200kb solid.

Seriously? What's with that?

I download something from Major Geek and it takes an hour and a half for a 24mb program. Rofl!

Something is screwy.. however. Nothing you can really do about it.

Yea its really funny. I tried to download something from major geek and it took almost 2 hours (was about 30MB). When it was finished I started a torrent and it was wizzing away at 220KB/s!

They really suck at managin traffic lol.

That will only work if you have a Premium RS account - if you don't have an account you're limited to 1 connection no matter what you use

I used tried this (http://www.google.com/notebook/public/11285474363097909509/BDQOWDQoQo5Xb2bck) and got 5x faster than usual speeds. (Getting upwards of 900KB/s now)

Edit: Just tried the same file without the website and not even getting 100KB/s.

That looks good but does it work with just free use or would you have to use Premium RS?

Well since they get you to enter your Rapidshare account details into your download manager I assume it only works for Premium...

Ok, now that I actually scrolled down and read the page properly...

Well, it works, but it doesn't seem to go any faster... Maybe I will try later...

What download manager are you using? I tried FDM but can only download 30KB links.

The traffic management definitely needs some refining, see this screenshot of my routers realtime bandwidth graphing.
That said if you look at my last months bandwidth use, it's good if you just queue things up to go overnight ....

The only track I have of my usage at the moment is this from my router,

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]: 29,19 / 999,42

And I dont think its right.

Can anyone help me with setting up Free Download Manager and RapidShare URL to IP Converter.
I followed the directions for Internet download manager and I got it to work but it was more luck than anything and I'm used to Free Download Manager.
Cheers

Yeah, funny that! Oh well looks like I'll have to use IDM but liked the features of IDM better such as standby after download completion.
Anyway I appreciate you replying narutophantom.
Cheers and thanks.

Try using a Rapishare premium link generator:
