Hi there
i have a hdd which has bad sectors hence cant boot into windows properly, i wish to get the ms office 2007 product key from that setup. its has windows 7 business. i can still manage to explore the hdd by connecting it to an usb adapter. so far i have tried CD Key Reader but it wont find keys from an externally connected hdd. are the keys stored anywhere? or any other trick.

likewise, does Belarc Advisor work with Win7?

If it does it will show the keys.

I suspect the product key is stored in the registry.
Problem is, these other apps will probably be looking for a registry file in the boot device, and will ignore the file(s) in the non-boot drive... so even though the data may be there, them problem may be in pointing an application to it.

Magical Jelly Bean can do it, just tell it to Load Hive under the tools menu, then
navigate to the required drives Windows folder.
Don't forget to run as administrator if in Vista or Win7
