Hi,

I'm looking for recommendations for a cheap notebook that's new and gives a good user experience.

With:
12 month warranty
Needs atleast a cdrw optical drive option
any or no OS
SSD Drive or Mechanical.
802.11g or n

For use by two entry level users
For some emailing and web browsing

Thanks in advance!

Cheap and good in the same package is impossible.
Buy an ASUS.

Cheap--Good--Fast

You only get two out of three

Most probably comes with an OS, unless you can ask / tell somehow to wipe it (which I dont think they will). You may as well get a netbook, if you want cheap. But it may not have as many features as a laptop / notebook

entry level it probaly doesnt matter to much what you get, i mean acer comes with a good enough warranty and they're cheap as chips

Are you a University student studying something to do with computer science by any chance? If you are, your University has probably subscribed to MSDN, in which you can download and use Windows XP and above for free.

What's your budget? Are we talking about netbook or proper laptop here?

Any gaming requirements here?

I think Asus PRO59LE-2 Notebook on Dick Smith website may suit your needs.

Cheers :)

Probably the cheapest you will find with a Cd/DVD drive are about the $1100 $1300 mark.
