just got a new laptop, heres the link:

i was wanting to security if up ASAP, my old computer is just over 5 years old (the one im using now) and iv not used vista or windows 7 before. i dont wanna buy anything tho, im happy with avast 4 home ATM, and was wondering if theres anything better. its not really for me (im gonna get an at least $2.2k+ one for uni) its for my mum to do some teacher stuff and whatnot, any ideas?

Its probably got a 2 way firewall on it. So, I wouldnt bother installing 1. Just install an AV program, and DON'T put any P2P programs on it

which AV? do i need spyware? i think it would be best downloading it on that one so it doesnt get anything from the old one eh?

EDIT: should i remove norton?

Definitely. Remove norton. Unless youre planning on renewing it, once it runs out

Its free and is better than Avast according to the real tests as done by our very own Wainuitech

oh yea, anyone know how to make the comp auto log in like on XP? i know its something to do with the registry but i did it ages ago...

Run>control userpasswords2

On the Users tab, clear the Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To Use This Computer check box and click OK.

In the Automatically Log On dialog box that appears, type the user name and password for the UA
