Hi All.
I have a problem that is steadily gettimg worse.Mainly slow changing between programmes, screens, & hanging for no reason at all.

I had a look in System Information & saw the following was Yellow !. 3 X out of the 5 lines . Would this make the comp slow.

I had started to go thro the normal checks, cleanup computer temp files & very slow but done.

Next I wanted to run Spybot & all the other stuff, too damned slow. Did a defrag last week.

Should do an HiJack log too.

Where should I start please.

Comp is a Metla Asus. XP Home SP3. Thanks PJ

Post a HJT log.

Can you fire up task manager and tell us how many processes are running, and identify which ones are using all the system resources.

If its as slow as you say then I wouldn't be surprised if something is broken and tying up 99 percent of the cpu cycles.

That install of Windows was never a great success though was it?, had issues right from day one.

Nvidia firewall / its called Forceware network access manager is installed. Thats probably one reason. Uninstall it. It will be conflicting with Sygate

Tick these then tick fix checked

ctrl, Alt, Delete key all together.

Do you have Microsoft security essentials installed as when it scans on older comps it can use upto 90% of the CPU. FOuld out the process is the same as an old Win defender process.

I had a slow comp on my old P4 used as a server googled the process and it was the Micro SE one

Sweet as, I'm not sure if you're running a USB (http://keyllama.com/images/usbconne.jpg) or PS/2 (http://keyllama.com/images/ps2keybo.jpg) keyboard, if it's PS/2 the PC needs to be switched off before you unplug/plug in the cable. If it's USB, leaving the PC running is fine.
