Win 7 will give you better performance but it will be more costly and some games may not run on it so its realy 50/50.

I'm yet to find a game that runs on Win7 but not Vista. 16-bit apps don't work in 64-bit Windows, regardless of the version, but at least with Win7 Pro and upwards you have XP-Mode which can run 16-bit apps from inside it.

I noticed a huge performance jump playing the likes of Assassins Creed in Win7 compared with XP. Previously I couldn't even run it at 1280x1024 without the movies lagging behind the sound. Now I can run it at higher resolutions and higher detail levels and it's still fine! Both had updated drivers and no anti-aliasing. Stoaked!!

Um, and what a hassle it is. I gave up and threw the old 16bits away......

Have noticed some improvements, but nothing of that extent yet:)

WinXP was never really created with multi GPUs in mind(Crossfire, SLI etc) and I reckon there would be quite performance increase for multi-GPU users going from XP>7

Win 7 won't run my USB freeview tuner without choppiness at 1600x1200 on the same PC
that XP happily runs it at 2048x1536, in fact the nVidia control panel in Win 7 doesn't
even give the option of 2048x1536.

Only a 9400 gt 512MB.
But this was a month ago and
drivers may have improved since then.
Might have another go when I get bored/have enough time.
(I uninstalled Win7 from it a week ago):D
