View Full Version : CD Writer 25% failure rate

I've just bought a new CD writer .. an external HP 8200 series, but am having trouble making music cds. Everything seems to go fine until the very end when I'm told that some sort of failure has occured and the burn has been unsuccessful. This seems to happen 25-30% of the time (the last three in a row have been failures). Is there anything I can do to make this success rate higher? Is this normal? And what can I do with the CDs that fail?

I know the feeling, can be very tempremental...make sure you close all other programmes when you are burning...that helps a lot...dont be online, dont have a screensaver running, and shut your antivirus software...this all helps...good luck

if it is not already try setting the recording speed on 4x, or otherwise, try 2x.

It may take longer, but if it stops the errors

Some times I get a error but its usually not long after the start of burning, I push the Disk back in and click Burn straight away and it works.
Madness I know.

What programs do you use?
The above are correct, use as little other resources as possible.
I have Nero and EZCD and both of these have options to:- TEST, TEST and BURN and BURN. I always chose the test and burn, really cuts down the failure rate.

If its an 8230e go to hp site & check for software updates

hi Steve,

are you using the 'copy to harddisk first' option? If not then it might be worth trying.
