I am having trouble with a network.
The business has manually assigned IP address
Two computers are connected to a switch
an adsl modem is connected to the switch
I can see each the other computer
but I can not get on the internet
although there seems to be an exchange of information going on

can someone shed light on why I am not able to connect to the internet?

(If I bring the unit to my office and change the ip settings to automatic - I can get on the internet - so this eliminates firewalls infections...)

Have they been manually assigned the gateway IP and DNS server addresses?
These are usually the ADSL router's IP address.

Can you access the ADSL router's web config or ping it on their network?

I should clarify:
The 2ndry computer connected the same as the primary connects just fine to the internet!
I have copied the exact same setting as the 2ndry computer but used different IP addresses but no internet connection.

Yes

I will try - interestingly - when I connected the network cable direct from the computer to the adsl modem it showed as if the cable was disconnected!

Yes - they manually assigned the gateway IP and DNS server addresses?

Wow!
The mystery of computers comes home again.
I returned the primary computer to the office.
Reset up the IP address & default gateway

and

it worked!!!!

(I had done all of this the day before!)

Thank you for your help!
Good Day!
