A friend's computer uses XP Home with Outlook Express as the email program.
She wants to know how to reduce the size of photo attachments when she sends them via OE.
Is there a facility built into OE to allow a choice of small, medium or large just as there is in Outlook ?
So far we haven't been able to find it.

Thanks, Peterver

she should stick the photos in a compressed zip or rar and change the compression settings

I use Picasa which picks up all the photo files in the computer, email direct from there, it resizes them automatically easy:clap

i dont thinkpeterver wants them resized just made smaller in size. Or do you mean it keeps the same attributes and just makes them take up less disk space?

Been using VSO image Resizer (http://www.vso-software.fr/products/image_resizer/) a lot. you can resize pictures as in actual size ( space), without losing much in the way of screen size.

I use it to post pictures here. If you have a look at This picture (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/Virus_Count.jpg) from another post, its only 175KB, the original was 1.7MB - hard to tell teh difference in quality.

Another program used in XP is free from MS - Image Resizer power toys (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Downloads/powertoys/Xppowertoys.mspx) - How to use it (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/learnmore/tips/eschelman2.mspx).

Another way is to let OE resize them-- I think ( from memory) this is how to do it-- Go to the pictures you want to send - select them, then on File/Send to / Mail recipient / and it offers to resize when opening OE.

Why doesn't she just Right click on the photo and choose Send to/Email Recipient then Windows will ask whether to make photos smaller, or keep original size? Choose make smaller and then OE message box pops up so she can include an email message.

Yes exactly. keep it simple.

Thanks for the responses to my question which pretty much confirm that there is no built in way to reduce photo attachment sizes (like exists in Outlook) using OE.
I am aware of the option to right click the photo and adjust size that way which my friend will use, thank you for your suggestions and help.
Cheers, Peterver

Outlook Express dose give you the option to reduce photo attachments before you send them. If you highlight the photos you want to email, then right click on the selected photos a menu pops up, select send to, then select mail recipient, then another window pops up, send pictures via email, and then you have three options, make all pictures smaller, keep to original size or more options.
