A laptop proccured from a family member shows the File Author on any files we are producing as being the original owner. We can change this on a file by file basis, but how do we get it to default to our name? Running XP if that is of any help.

And what program are you using?? For the files youre creating?

You probably have to change the name under personalise. I can tell you where to go in word 07. Since thats the version Im using. Other versions you'll have to look under help. In 07 you click on the orb up top / word options / popular / the last option. It may have the author option in previous versions or something, I dont know

Reckon I got it sussed, in Word/Tools/Options/User Information, change name & initials. Excel/Tools/Options/General, type own name in username box. Seems to have done the trick.
